aerial yoga
Stretch, swing and relax
What Is Aerial Yoga?
Aerial Yoga is simply doing yoga in a suspended silk hammock. It is a tool to help students achieve the traditional yoga positions that they never thought possible. You will use the hammock to improve your flexibility, joint mobility, strength and alignment.
Aerial yoga will “turn your world upside down.” Aerial Yoga is safe inversion therapy. Zero-Compression on the spine! Hanging upside down decompresses the vertebrate of your spine from the long-term effects of gravity. It will help create space between your vertebral discs for the nerves of your spinal cord. Realign and open up your physical body by using gravity! Realign your spirit by “flying”.
Take your fitness to the next level. Use gravity to your advantage—Give yourself much deeper stretches, give yourself full back extensions, give yourself freedom in the silks. You will experience the restorative effects of being in the silks during meditation and savasana. The silks have a cocooning/womb effect!
Aerial Yoga is appropriate for all levels! Don’t worry about falling out of the silks. They are engineered to hold 2000 lbs. They are silky smooth and will support you!
Why Give Aerial Yoga A Try?
Medical Community often treat the symptoms of back pain: with anti-inflammatory medication, electrical stimulation, ultrasound and cortisone injections. One of the biggest contributing factors to back pain is spinal compression: Our bodies are at the mercy of gravity. Gravity and muscle imbalances shove the vertebrate together pressing on your discs. Nerve pressure can cause pain. Aerial Yoga is inversion therapy. It diminishes the effect of gravity by reducing the compression of the vertebrate into discs and allows the muscles and ligaments to relax.
Physical Restrictions
Please talk to the instructor before class if you have any concerns. People who have heart disease, high blood pressure, eye diseases (such as glaucoma), or are pregnant should consult their doctors first before trying inversions.
Aerial Yoga Etiquette
- Please arrive 15 minutes early. It takes time to check-in, get situated and size yourself in a silk.
- If you arrive late and have not been sized in a silk, it creates a class interruption for the instructor. Please be respectful and arrive early
- For your safety and the safety of the silks, please remove your jewelry—rings, earrings, bracelets, necklaces. Your jewelry can become snagged in the silks which is not safe for your body parts or the silks.
- For sanitary reasons, please be sure your hands and feet are clean prior to starting an Aerial Class.
- Wear a t-shirt that covers your underarms completely—the hammocks can rub on the upper arms and armpits. Do not use hand lotion before class.
- Wear snug fitting clothing. Avoid shorts or very baggy clothing. Avoid eating or drinking acidic liquids an hour prior to class.
