What Is Yoga?

Yoga is a practical aid, not a religion that is more than 6,000 years old. Yoga is a system of physical and mental practices that improves your health and well-being. The practice of yoga makes the body strong and flexible and improves the functioning of the respiratory, circulatory, digestive, and hormonal systems. Yoga brings about emotional stability and clarity of mind and is a tool to realign and rebalance your vehicle (body) on a regular basis.

I’ve never done yoga before. What classes do you recommend I take?

Beginners and 1st Time Clients should start by taking the Beginner Hot Yoga Classes to build a knowledgeable foundation of the yoga poses and the sequence.  The Beginner Hot Yoga Classes break down the poses to assist in foundation and alignment.  Also, look for our Beginner Foundational Workshops.  Be patient with yourself and allow things to unfold and soon you will be comfortable in any of our classes offered.

I’m “Inflexible,” can I do yoga?

Yes, you are a perfect candidate!  Begin practicing yoga regularly and you will see how quickly you will gain flexibility and strength.

What do I wear?

Wear comfortable shorts or leggings that are light weight and breathable.  To keep your top in place we recommend a form fitting tank or t-shirt.  Bring extra clothing to change into after class.  We have showers available for your convenience.

What do I bring?

You will need a sticky yoga mat.  Thick exercise mats are not recommended.  Please bring a large bath/beach towel and a hand towel.  Bring a bottle of water as well.  We have a filtered water cooler for you to refill at your convenience.  If you forget any of these items, the studio has mat rentals $3, towel rentals $1/$3, bottled water to purchase $1.  We even have hair ties in case you forget.

Why do we OM in class?

Our yoga classes begin and end with 3 Oms. Om-ing represents everything and creates harmony and unity in class. Om is an amazing tool that all people of all faiths can utilize to bring focus and awareness to the greater meaning of life. OM contains all the power of the universe and brings into your awareness the physical reality of this world and your body.

The OM sound broken down:
The A (aahhh) sound represents the creation aspect of the universe and all of the gross objects within it.
The U (oooh) sound signifies the maintaining energy of the universe and the subtle impressions of the mind.
The M (mmmm) sound characterizes the transformative energy of the universe and the thoughts and beliefs of your beingness.

Repeating Om at the end of a session, together with the traditional “Namaste”, is a declaration of respect for the practice and each other. It also allows you to carry forth the inspiration of yoga to everyone and encourage growth in yourself and others through your presence alone.

What does Namaste mean?

“Namaste” literally means “The Light in Me Honors the Light in You.”  It is a gesture of gratitude and respect for the practice and each other.  It carries forth the inspiration of yoga to everyone and encourages growth in yourself and others.
